Anybody wanna guess...based on SWAM, AAS, or RS homebrew?
Price guess, $99 (like most RS instruments)
I guess we did pretty good at guessing physical modelling after Ryans leak....

Is it sample based?
The doubling just sounds like delayed sound, not really a "doubling" with different expression at all.
4 matrix slots...wow!
The overall sound seems to be good (difficult to tell on youtube). Would be interesting to see a player with MPE performing it. Ooops, no MPE.
I am not that much impressed, probably because i already have a full orchestra library, samples and synths for this. Might be cool for someone who is looking for a string and is not that saturated already with sounds

And it's "ONLY" 109 bucks..

Ok. Its a physical modeled synth. So my guess was quite good on Ryan's leak
And i am clearly more interested in a physical modeled synth than sample based, especially when it sounds good.
I'd rather have seen some more ways to shape the sound (envelope, mod matrix slots), instead of a reverb for example. Just more ways to shape a single voice. But for a "simple" orchestra stuff it may do its job...
Hoepfully we see more physical modelled synths in future. Maybe with some audio in to push the resonators

It can go quite far beyond normal violin-family sounds, that was a design goal, we just wanted to make sure it did the real sounds really well. It's designed to be an expressive solo instrument rather than a big orchestra sound. We spent a lot of time making sure you could play a realistic performance with all the nuances of that. That's where physical modeling really shines too, you have full control. For big orchestral string pads, sample libraries are arguably better suited.Loque wrote: ↑25 Aug 2020I'd rather have seen some more ways to shape the sound (envelope, mod matrix slots), instead of a reverb for example. As always, the combinator opens up really extensive CV control too.
Yea, i just saw it in the video and wanted to quickly have a look into the manual, what other models it has, but there is no manual. Ofc physical modelling opens a new door into sounds and clearly that was one thing that was missing in Reason (stock).MattiasHG wrote: ↑25 Aug 2020It can go quite far beyond normal violin-family sounds, that was a design goal, we just wanted to make sure it did the real sounds really well. I will give it a try and check how it sounds. Maybe its a good addition to my REsonans, AAS stuff, some simple Carplus Strong synths and some libraries.

Yes there is, it's at the bottom of the shop product page.Loque wrote: ↑25 Aug 2020Yea, i just saw it in the video and wanted to quickly have a look into the manual, what other models it has, but there is no manual. Hi
There would not be a discount coupon for owners of Reason suite or the possibility based on reward points (I do not know what to do with my points)

Very impressed with what I saw and heard. The ability to be far more expressive than what is traditionally availible on a keyboard and the oppuntunity to make other-worldly sounds certainly tickles the creative pallette

Exactly what I thought but remember, we need another instrument when we have 600 Re's, 60 stock devices and probably 2000 vst's on the market.
Although saying that, this isn't a Reason update so I suppose considered a separate thing than the daw.

Well, the demos sounds OK for a PM synth of this kind and they do have a number of different Res Bodies for some variation, more than SWAM/AAS, and I guess $99 is OK compared to the competition.
No info anywhere about licensing, so maybe a home-brew unless the UJAM Gorilla engine has new PM stuff (I am not up-to-date on that).
Whoever choose the green/orange theme should do some soul searching because it made it look like a $19 thingy. Ghastly is the mild variant of what I think about the looks.
140 patches is setting the bar way low, surely there are enough knobs to turn to create 300+ patches.
I have most of the AAS String patch libs and IL's Sakura, but honestly hardly ever use them, string PM is a bit of an oddball synth. But hey, maybe there is some creative use deep down there to find.
70% Wet reverbs and Half-time can be they way to for modern pop and stuff.
But it is not obvious who this appeals to unless you do scoring for Ingmar Bergman movie remakes or Irish bar music, lol...

Lot's of the old Motown records were scored with something like 4-man string sections, though different type of strings, so you would have to set up 4 of them and play them slightly different. Maybe someone wants to try something like that? Sampled libraries struggle with this. So 2-3 PM + 2-3 sampled based, layered together, can give you a good balance and Ok realism, if someone is into that.MattiasHG wrote: ↑25 Aug 2020It's designed to be an expressive solo instrument rather than a big orchestra sound. Here's a great review/article on Friktion over at CDM: https://cdm.link/2020/08/reason-friktio ... nstrument/
With the doubling and the "Smear" parameter, you do get variations in expression and instrument response for the number of "players" you choose. But Friktion's super light on the CPU and RAM so loading up a couple in a combinator and playing them is easy tooBoombastix wrote: ↑25 Aug 2020Lot's of the old Motown records were scored with something like 4-man string sections, though different type of strings, so you would have to set up 4 of them and play them slightly different. Sounds good. Would sound good in combination with stringwerk.
I don't have Kontakt but Kontakt would be my preference in combination with spitfire libraries for realistic strings, but that would also cost the price of a second hand car and a high spec computer unfortunately.
I can't trial this without a computer. Can this thing do a decent / realistic cello solo?
What you need is control over which notes are slurred and which ones are bowed... If it can do that then I will prob buy it as a substitute for the professional hypersampled libraries as I have stringwerk already and I reckon the two Re'"s might compliment each other nicely.

This is one of my favourite aspects of Reason's homegrown instruments, they're always easy on the CPU. This RE looks very cool, although I'm conflicted as to whether sample libaries may be more efficient at filling this niche use. I'll definitely give it a hard demo though!MattiasHG wrote: ↑25 Aug 2020Here's a great review/article on Friktion over at CDM: https://cdm.link/2020/08/reason-friktio ... nstrument/
