Nice looking synth. I don't really need any chip sounds for my music but for those that do this looks fantastic.

I beta tested this and had a lot of fun doing so. Nice little synth, here. I was surprised that it can make a pretty wide variety of sounds, for a chip emulator. I particularly enjoy the "auto retrig" mode. Congrats to Mathieu Demange & Co on the release. :)
Players are to MIDI what synthesizers are to waveforms.

I watched the trailer before I knew who made it, and I honestly thought it was a propellerhead synth based on how pro the trailer looked

I'm not really in the market for this synth but have to say, the promo video is great and the demo songs are some of the best I've heard

Awesome, looks like FM4 has some competition - this sounds even grittier.

I don't need another FM synth. I don't need another chip simulation. But it looks like I do need an FM chip simulation. Well done!

Neat! Before I try, can someone comment on what the presets sound like? If there are many that sound like they are straight out of classic Genesis/MegaDrive games, then I might have to buy this. I love good presets because I often don't know how to get 'that' particular sound.

There's no way I'm not getting this. Amazing. Sonic had the coolest soundtrack. All about that FM grit!

Nice looking GUI, cool little synth. Will check this for sure.

But doesn't OchenK's Chip64 do similar sounds?

I haven't tried the RYM2616 yet, but I own the FM4. I use the FM4 to make weird noises, and I often employ the Drift knob on the FM4 to do so. I looked through the RYM2616 manual, and while there is no "detune knob," per se, it looks like the Special Mode noted might possibly serve this purpose. Does anyone know if that is the case?

Chip64 emulates sound chips that use subtractive synthesis. Lots of pulse waves, triangle waves, noise, etc. This emulates a sound chip which uses FM synthesis. So while they both aim to recreate retro sound chips, the character of each is very unique.

Just listen to the demos in the shop and you should immediately hear the difference. Chip64 sounds more like NES or Atari, while RYM2612 has a Sega Genesis feel.

I also thought it RYM 2612 compared to other Rack Extension but finds that his interest is to marry it with the other modules. His reaction is quite different than a FM4 or Chip64 . Appreciable with any type of saturation/Overdrive . ;)

Thanks MD & Willbe, this is real little gem!

By the way, to anyone interested in YM2612 music: Check out Daniel B.'s (aka "Savaged Regime") video game music remixes on YouTube, they are really good ("Inertia" is my favourite so far).

I'm writing a song with this thing right now. The song itself is coming along nicely, but I must say I find this synth pretty confusing.
I feel like I've gotten to a point where I can grasp the basics pretty quickly whenever I try a new synth. But not so much with this one. Expanse with all the endless options seemed pretty easy when I tried it compared to this one.

For one I'm not used to FM synthesis and from what I've understood it's one of the harder kind of synthesis to learn.
And also there's a bunch other stuff I've never even seen in a synth before.
And the things I am familiar with from before work a little differently here, like LFO, and the ADSR knobs are working in the opposite direction to all other synths I've ever used.

Hmm. I think I'll mess around (randomly tweak) with the presets to the best of my abilities and get on with the song writing instead of trying to understand this synth. I'll leave that to all you knowledgable sound designers out there.

I know there's a manual, I skimmed through it. But if anyone is willing to make an instructional video on this synth that would be great for a dummy like me. Maybe a job for Hydlide :)

+10 on a Hydlide video using this synth, I'm not sure he's done a proper FM synthesis video tho he mentions it often enough. Delicate tweaking to FM params has been my approach while pretending to know what's going on, still quite fun.

I suggested to Hydlide to make a video on RYM2612 and he responded he had thoughts of doing so and that he also had some ideas of comparing different FM synths in Reason.

Hopefully it will happen.
