"I use Reason" reaction
Was watching the new episode of The Cave (Producer Kenny Beats creates a quick track for the guest artist to sing/rap on) and got a big laugh from the reaction when Toro y Moi says he uses Reason
Had no idea he was a Reason user! Been listening to his stuff before and he is a very creative and talented artist

That would be my guess. It also has a different enough user interface that at a quick glance it might not look like it has the functionality of other common DAWs
Groupthink syndrome.

It hasn't kept up with the times and has too many missing feature's and is clunky. People moved on from it years ago I think, moved to Abelton or Logic.
Like, the three windows need to speak to each other for a start (cause when I'm using Reason standalone, I have each window (Rack, Sequencer and Mixer) on a separate screen) and when you label tracks for instance in any window, they need to speak to each other, label all 3. Yes, you can label via the sticker in the rack and it does that but you need to know that and there's the rearranging the order of the instruments too, you can sync all but needs to be automatic. That + just too many basic missing feature's that just make life easier and make the daw flow better which without them, make the daw seem 10 years behind and feel less streamlined such as:- joining midi notes, midi controller key highlighting (across the note row in the midi editor when pressing a midi key), note displays, midi chase, remember last note length, time markers, track folders, autosave, limited sends, limited project history, create your own shortcuts etc etc. No undo history, so if you NEED to undo something you did half an hour ago, you can't. FIX all of the above and it might have some chance of enticing more professional producers such as the guy in the video. I think without them, it just becomes marmite. Sorry, people who don't live in the U.K or have done won't get that probably.
Even if they did add all these features, which I had hope for that they'd do in this 12 version but now it just seems like same old same old and I'm very doubtful of that, they'd need some advertising campaign to reintroduce people to Reason to show them off. When they decided to make it a proper DAW when they added audio in 6 (and not be a closed software) they should've cracked on with more of these features, like doubled the daw features and VST should've been introduced much sooner. Too much reluctance to me to add feature's to the daw and it always seems they add them because they get requested a 1000 times first and not because they want to advance it's workflow.
Oh yeah, I missed off about 10 missing feature's from the browser such as audio wave display, pitch shift and tempo sync. It needs about 40 feature's. I'm afraid this thread will just turn into another one of the 20 threads of the missing feature's from Reason inevitably.

Maybe the same 'reason' some people believe Reason looks like a toy, or serious music tools must be black, or with muted colors? The main reason was the lack of VST or midi out support for so many years, imho

That damn 'Reason sound' again
Most people have no real idea the power Reason has, since the rack plugin became available I've seen quite a few videos by people using 'pro' software creaming themselves over how fantastic Reason's devices are and the stuff they can do with cables.
A whole new world has opened up to them.

I remember when FL studio was fruity loops and that was the toy, non professional, software.
That's over doing it a bit.
I've been using Reason in it's dilapidated state for years and it's never tried to make me puke.

That question would would work just as well if "Reason" were lowercase.
That's what was meant. In the post-modern world they both are provisional terms. Why does Groupthink™ go against Reason™?

I kinda think they should integrate all the functions in the f8 window better, into the sequencer window and so on, but then keep the f8 window and just add totally changing and random shit to it. Like pics from the Props xmas party or statistics and bizarre facts. Then just change it w every update.
Edit:
Or, considering the state of things, maybe it could be like a quick link for reporting bugs!
Or even a feature suggestion function!!! Man that would be great. You could fly directly into a frustrated rant without even breaking your workflow.
Roll on R13, eh?!!
Edit2:
Or it could become the note function. Loads of people wanted that.

I think one cause of the unenthusiastic reactions to Reason has been the authorization system Propellerhead used to prevent piracy. Reason has basically been uncrackable for over a decade, whereas many of the other DAWs were easily cracked and shared. This allowed every broke 15-year-old to dip their toes into music production, which in turn flooded YouTube with tutorials and demonstrations of those DAWs, creating vibrant online communities around those platforms. Now those guys are 25, and they love Ableton and FL Studio and speak the same language.
We have a community around Reason here, but this forum is the biggest, the average age here is pretty high, and posts to the music sub-forum don’t get much engagement. I think that’s why RS has been trying to gear Reason toward younger audiences. Most promo material features trap or EDM and highlights Reason’s ability to deliver immediate results, a departure from the technical James Bernard-era immersive patching they used to feature. Props had every right to make Reason secure, but I suspect one unintended consequence is the blank stares I get when I tell other guys I use Reason. We’re kind of on an island.

Yeah, pretty much like so. Reason 12 is million times more powerful, than what it used to be. I'd even say, that there's no excuse anymore to blame Reason, for not being able to make hit-music.
One could replace all the stocks with any REs or VSTs now. The bottlenecks have become different - regarding bad music. A superb music in the quality-wise is possible.
