I am in Japan for almost 7 years.
I am reason user since reason 1.
Reason is not so much popular in Japan I feel, most of the people I work with usually using Logic, Pro Tools etc (of course it depends on the purpose mixing or composing ...)
Sometimes people asking me what I am using when I am in the studio, when I am saying "Reason" they are often confuse, then they check the screen 'wooo すごい'
I met a guy from NYC few months ago who sometimes visit Tokyo, we talked a bit together. I remember he was also reason user, but we had exactly the same conversation about "reason" and "Japan"

Estuary- I'm delighted to find that there's at least another user in japan! え!すごい!sounds familiar lol I've used since reason 4!
I live in Nagoya, and grew up in nagoya!

Do you know of any groups for reason users in japan? I also write and speak japanese so I was thinking maybe I'll start one so we can gain more users!

A map with Reason users. It´s time you add yourself to Japan, feels quite empty ;-)

I don't live in Japan, but I'm a Reason user and a Japan freak. All my music currently is based on japanese influences (mixing traditional sounds with electronic and chiptune music), if you are interested in some collaboration just let me know.

I love every asian classical instruments, especially Japanese and Chinese instruments. I am digging YT to look for them, I want to sample them all haha. I am even curious if there are any classical instruments recorded in Vinyls from Japan.

For those interested in japanese VSTs, I did some research on Japanese VSTs months ago, I ended up buying some of these as well as some others are on my future purchases list. I put here a list of the VSTs I liked the most in case you are interested:

- Sonica JP Koto 13, Tsugaru Shamisen and Shakuhachi. They are the best in my opinion, ended up purchasing the three of them in the last sale action who took place because of the 10th anniversary of Sonica Instruments:
http://sonica.jp/instruments/index.php/ ... u-shamisen

- BFD3 Expansions Taiko + Kabuki & Noh Percussion, which are actually a product by Sonica JP too, but they did it for FXpansion, so you can only purchase for FXpansion's BFD now:
https://www.fxpansion.com/products/bfdx ... sions/jtp/
https://www.fxpansion.com/products/bfdx ... ns/kabuki/

- Nagoya Harp by UVI, a very unique instrument and the only VST version I know of it:
https://www.uvi.net/nagoya-harp.html

- Premier Sound Factory Koto and Shakuhachi, for me the only VSTs that can compete with the Sonica JP ones, maybe I end up getting these some day too as a second option and if I need a different color in my compositions:
http://www.premiersoundfactory.com/kaguya/
http://www.premiersoundfactory.com/shak ... premier-g/

- Koto Nation from the PH shop, good to go if you are starting with these sounds and do not have that much money. Even when the name is Koto Nation it also includes a sampled Shamisen:
https://www.propellerheads.com/shop/pro ... to-nation/

- Venus Shakuhachi, a shakuhachi with a nice sound and a different color than the previous ones:
https://impactsoundworks.com/product/ventus-shakuhachi/

- ShamiKoto by Syntheway, which is actually an emulation made by computer as far as I know, depending on what you are writing might be interesting though:
https://syntheway.com/ShamiKoto.htm

For those interested on Chinese instruments this could be also a good reference:

Nice ! :D
I don't know any groups for reason users here in Tokyo, but I am sure there is some people using Reason around the town.
I could see before there is 'meetup' for music maker, DAW, etc ...
It's a bit rare, but I am sure it's good idea to create group or something related to 'reason' or DAW in Japan.
To be honest, I am a lone wolf, so I never really research for users/groups.
If you have opportunity and motivation, I am sure you can make something !

I think Korg distribute Reason in Japan. Are they not doing a good job at promoting it?

Hi wowhow,

I'm in Tokyo. Like yourself I'm a bit of a recluse -- that's what Reason does to you!

I'm a bit busy for collaborations but I'd be happy to be included if you get a group going. This is a song and video I finished last week:

All the music was done in Reason, of course.

Pete

reddust - Thanks so much for the information! These all look really amazing!

Molotovbeatz - yes, that'd be interesting! ill look for some and maybe go to a local record store to see if I can find material to sample.

jappe - thanks for the information!

kinkujin - I wish we can all collaborate in person!

estuary - ok, thank you. I think I might try to start something! It'll probably be a facebook group or some other sns oriented group.

kalm - hmm. I'll look for some and get back to you if I can find some!

miscend - They are the official distributor but the reason manual hasn't been translated since reason 7. You can't change the language settings in reason either so I think there's a major language barrier for users in japan.

Pete B- Hi! Yes, reason keeps me at home haha Please let me invite you to the group if I make one! I love the track you made too - very interesting. I think I feel at ease when I feel stylish or I feel ok being vulnerable too haha

I am not sure about it, but for example if you go to some famous/convenient music stores in Tokyo,
You can see a lot of Native Instruments and Ableton on the screens ... Well I guess, it's because usually they have controllers/keyboards, so it's nice and easy to try for the customers.
From what I remember ... I could not see a reason software box somewhere around the town, but I believe, if you ask the staff they probably have in stock or order, but I didn't see any signs of 'promoting' you know.

Actually, sorry, contrary to what I wrote earlier, you can change the language settings for reason but the japanese manual has not been updated since 7.

Can you share some web URL from those stores (preferably in english), I would like to see if I could order some Japanese vinyls and get it shipped to Europe where I live. I am very interested in Japanese classical vinyls to sample. :ugeek:

I don't live in Japan but also in Europe and maybe these links can help a little, here is where I buy my music coming from Japan...

Here you can buy physical copies (CDs, DVDs...)
http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/music/
https://buyee.jp (actually contents from amazon and yahoo Japan and some other shops gathered together)

And if digital copies is also an option, here I buy some hard to find Japanese records for download:

I'm fairly certain that valsound (Takeshi Abo), a veteran game and TV composer in Japan, is still a big Reason user. He's probably best known for the "Steins;gate" series right now. I'm not sure he's open to collabs, but it's always cool to know Reason gets that kind of workout.

They’re all honestly quite pricey. Apart from chinee Kong but they only support windows. Hopefully those sample libraries will have sales in the summer.

Yeah, even when I don't think they are all that pricey (ventus, Nagoya harp, koto nation are ok I think...) I did purchase my VSTs here always on sale price. SonicaJP had recently a 40% or 50% price reduction because of their 10th anniversary. I got the FXpansion Percussion plugins and Koto Nation on sale too. Now I'm waiting for UVI Nagoya Harp and maybe Ventus shakuhachi for a sale too.

Japanese VSTs doesn't usually get the summer sale but they get sales on different moments, they just don't seem to follow the regular sales western sellers do, like the summer sale or black friday, which is too bad :(
