Fader automation bug ?

I regularly use fader automation - but unless I've gone mad it seems to have stopped working

I click 'Edit Automation' on fader and the automation lane appears in the sequencer. But when I press record it either tries to record over the actual track - I can stop this by deselecting the Record Enable button on the track, but then the automation does not record - in fact nothing happens.

I think its a bug as It worked once just now - then refused to record subsequently

My bad I have to select Record Enable Parameter Automation !
