Which animal could survive the apocalypse poll
If the world is ending, which animal do you think will survive it and probably restart life again ?
Microbes and plants might survive, but which animal will survive the end of the world so that evolution begins again from that animals reproduction rather than from scratch.

The answer largely depends on what causes the apocalypse, right?
My bets are on tardigrades though. Those little fuckers can withstand so much extreme stuff
Other than that, bacteria, of course, and they aren't "from scratch", they are pretty advanced organisms already. ♂️

not really the question, but okay.
Only one vote for pigs and cockroach.
Anyone else thinks some other animal ?

Based on human behavior right now I believe this event already happened in the past. Life got a reboot, and we all evolved from scorpions. Obviously.

Rats are also pretty sturdy...
I clicked on this thinking that "Reason bug" would be an option...and that someone would say, "Yeah, nothing can kill those." Perhaps things are improving? Lol

In all seriousness - while there's plenty of plausible scenarios where civilization might collapse, and humanity reverts to the stone age or something, it's my opinion that anything devastating enough to wipe out humanity entirely, and make humans become extinct, is enough of a problem that we very well might have to see intelligent life drag itself up all the way from microbe levels.
We are the animal that solves problems and adapts. Even before our technology advanced, humans were surviving environments from the hottest deserts to the arctic tundra.
The meteor impact that killed the dinosaurs didn't literally murder them all at once; rather, it changed the environmental conditions enough that the species couldn't adapt to changes soon enough to keep supporting themselves. We could adapt to that, though we probably wouldn't enjoy the experience. Even if all the nuclear weapons on Earth got deployed, and all that was left of humanity was a few pockets here and there in the most remote areas, well, that would still be sufficient for the human race to rebuild and eventually re-civilize. Radiation? Well, if the entire environment was so irradiated that all humans died from it, then the entire ecosystem would also be in trouble.
So I guess it depends on how you define your apocalypse. Even the worst-case climate change scenarios don't foresee the human race dying out completely, just things getting very uncomfortable for a lot of people.
