I was at a restaurant eating dinner last night when a song came on I hadn't heard or thought about in years. It was from the first album I ever bought (on cassette): "Metal Health" by Quiet Riot. It came out in 1983.
The song that came on was "Cum on Feel the Noize". Good stuff, and good memories. Here's the link:

I saw the Jan & Dean Story movie on TV and had to have the record.
It wasn't till U2s Under A Blood Red Sky that I bought anything. Not that i wasn't heavily into music but that I couldn't afford to buy records. I would look though them over and over in every shop, just wishing I could get ELO, Mi Sex and Depeche Mode.

Under a blood red sky is a hell of an album. U2 is one of the few bands that sounds better live to my ears (Morrissey is another). BTW, how did you embed the Youtube video?
Still nostalgic about the old days, writing songs with my Amiga 500, Korg M1, and Ensoniq ASR-10 sampler.

I was a late starter with regards to albums...my first single was gary numans cars and I believe my first album was the beverly hills cop soundtrack (at the time it was the only way to get harold faltermeyer's axel f)
Jez: "How long can it take to come up with 3 minutes of music?" Hans: "6 minutes max"
Jez: "That's being generous. That's 2 minutes per minute"

Not sure but... my earliest memory of buying a record is Marilyn Manson Mechanical Animals on cassette format. There might have been some stuff before that. The first album I ever got was Metallica Kill 'Em All, back in the 80's It was probably bought for me.
Axel F was the first thing I learned to play on my Casio SK-1.willowman wrote:I was a late starter with regards to albums...my first single was gary numans cars and I believe my first album was the beverly hills cop soundtrack (at the time it was the only way to get harold faltermeyer's axel f)
My first album was also a soundtrack, but in this case Ghostbusters.

Kill 'Em All was an early purchase for me... still think Master of Puppets is one of the best albums ever made.Data_Shrine wrote:Not sure but... my earliest memory of buying a record is Marilyn Manson Mechanical Animals on cassette format. First Album: Quiet Riot - Metal Health
The question is - Who cares
Great thread Carl! I really liked Come On Feel The Noise too!
My first album was Thomas Dolby's The Golden Age Of Wireless.
Favourite track: One Of Our Submarines.
There is another thread on the forums about wanting more song challenges. It could be fun to have a song challenge where people produce a cover of a song on the first album they ever bought

This could be really interesting. I still listen to all kinds of Rock/Metal, but since, when I (try to) make music myself, I'm just makin Electronic stuff, it would be a real challenge for me, to adapt "Don't wanna let you go" to some kind of Tranceraymondh wrote:Great thread Carl! First album... can't remember (was most likely vinyl or tape) but my first CD was The Cure's Disintegration. Got it when it came out and it became one my favorite albums of all time. Pretty funny that as I really never listened to the other albums until way later (think 15 years) due to the fact that my gf at that time is one of the biggest Cure fans on the planet I really do love two of the previous ones too, Faith and Pornography, o' that beautiful dark trinity...

I'm thinking that if we did a challenge for this, we should let it run for an extended time, like say 2 or even 3 months. I would be in the same situation as you, where the track I'd work on is way outside my comfort zone. I recently made a cover for a track I liked that had a long guitar solo and something that would never come naturally to me. It took me ages but it came out ok in the end and I learned a lot in the process. I could not have done that within the normal 4-6 week challenge timeframe.Electric-Metal wrote:This could be really interesting. @raymondh: I like this idea, an my Brain is already pulsating, how to get this done

First vinyl I ever bought was queen and then queen 2. Of course I was a young kid and living at home, and in moving they perished.. No where to be found. I had almost every single queen album on vinyl, a bucket of 12 inches...... And............ Bros first album!! Lol!! (I still maintain Matt goss had an unusual and pleasant voice, but I was a little queen in the making at that age which is obviously the real reason behind my bro diction).

Bought this when I was 10 in 1978. I guess I can say it is all their fault in the end.

Hm. Technically, I had bought albums at yard sales and such with trivial spare change as a kid, and I was always getting gifted records. So I've had albums for as long as I can remember. But the first album I ever bought with my own money, new in the store, was probably one of these:
These all came into my collection at roughly the same era, I just can't remember which I bought first.

999 by 999. I had it for years until some lowlife stole it during a party in our shared house in London in the early 90s. I now have it on CD. A classic punk album from 1978. I actually got to see 999 live at the Intrepid Fox in London not long before I moved to Australia
