Re: (triphop/hiphop/r&b) first release

Yeah, reverb has to be added with care. I'm certainly no expert, but I know there are lots of ways to avoid it drowning out the instruments. E.g.If you add the reverb as a send effect, in the mixer on the right hand side there's a blue Level pan pot that you can turn down to stop the reverb flooding...

(Folk rock jazz) Beyond Industry

https://soundcloud.com/peter-branscombe/beyond-industry-mix This is a guitar-driven song about the redemptive power of nature, no less. And since I know you all like to sing along ( :D ) here are the words: BEYOND INDUSTRY Pay my tithe, work the land Dawn ’til dusk, head in sand Take a look in the ...

Re: (triphop/hiphop/r&b) first release

That's an interesting stripped-down version. I'm not much of a fan of cover versions but this is definitely different enough to the original to justify doing it. I see you said you brought the piano volume down but I think the piano could do with being a bit more substantial. If it was a fuller soun...

Re: My new dreampop EP, Piaculum Arcana

The opening of the first track reminded me of early New Order; just the guitar sounds I suppose. It sounds like it's missing some singing, or maybe the melodic instruments could be more forward. But I suppose that might not suit its job as a soundtrack. Pleasant listening.

I like the fact that your tracks always sound original, as this one does. I think this one would have benefitted from some repetition though, to give a bit more direction.

Re: (Ambient) L'Amour De La Vie - Waves III

I really liked the first couple of minutes, very hypnotic and the voice sounded organic/authentic. I liked it less when the drums came in because they changed the mood completely. I would have liked more natural sounding drums or percussion, or none. So it's like two different songs to me. After I g...

Re: (Alt Rock) A Good Gun

I like the idea though my dislikes are: - the mix is a bit thin, tinny - the vocals are sitting with the instruments (almost just as loud) - A rather mono mix I think the track itself could shine without the vocals Great feedback, thanks. I agree with most of it (The message would be lost if I get ...

(Alt Rock) A Good Gun

https://soundcloud.com/peter-branscombe/a-good-gun-mix1 This is a song about the misguided belief that 'a good guy with a gun' is not oxymoronic. The main rhythm is provided by dholki (a low-sounding Asian two-headed drum) and tablas. The keyboard sounds are harmoniums from the Factory Soundbank. T...

Re: (sketch) Crazy-Diver _4filegate AVM

The main melody seemed to lift the song (give it direction) when it came in. But it sounded a bit too upfront to me. I think a mellower, less synthy, sound might suit the melody part better, too. The music is a good/solid bed for the melody

(Lazy alternative rock) Change (wip)

Hi all, I wanted to spend more time on this but the weekend's over so I'm posting it anyway.

I'd be grateful for any feedback or criticisms.

Thanks, Pete

Re: drum and bass

Good. I preferred 2 - it sounded more musical. They sound very full, not lacking anything, but they are just snippets so I don't know if that fullness would be too much (for me only, of course) if it didn't change.

Re: Soundtrack - Punchinello: The Kingdom Where Nobody Dies

I don't know that story or the film, but judging from the picture the lion dies. If that's right and is what you were soundtracking, then the music is suitably mournful. I thought the lead could come in more gently and get gradually harsher; it sounded a bit too harsh coming in suddenly against the ...

Re: (Folk rock jazz, elements of) Class Debate

Vocals aren't my cup of tea but I like the music a lot. This must have been quite the process if guitar was your lead without tempo. I tried doing the same on an acoustic piece I started working on a few months back. Once I went to add drums I realized it just wouldn't work and had to scrap the ent...

(Folk rock jazz, elements of) Class Debate

https://soundcloud.com/peter-branscombe/class-debate-mixed-not-mastered I wanted the acoustic guitar to lead this song, so that I could go more naturally with the flow of the emotions rather than follow a strict tempo. What a pain! It took a long time fitting everything to the fluctuating tempo - t...

Re: [Ambient] Timesake - Lux EP

Very nice and generally gentle first track - lots of ambient stuff is easy to switch off from but the changing of moods held my interest.
Initially I thought the second was a bit too uneventful, but when the voice came in it changed things and made it interesting.

Re: (Melodic Rock) New EP by Are We Ghosts

I only listened to the first track ("not enough hours in the day" to quote you!). I much preferred the 'melodic' to the 'rock' - it sounds more creative/original to me, but maybe I'm just not a heavy rocker. It sounds fine to me production-wise, apart from the heavy guitar sounding a bit too upfront...

Soo, I never posted music on here beside participating in RE song challenges. Re: (5/8 Electronic) - Darkness

I like the fact that you're experimenting with different stuff (the rhythm and the orchestral bit). Those two dying synths were good and unexpected, too - the bits that sounded like the synth was just giving up and sputtering to a halt. The music fitted the mood of the video.

Re: Round and Down (Folk rock jazz, maybe)

Also ofc, just good old attenuation of up some of those particularly harsh freqs. I'm not sure on how people view this method, but I often find frequencies I don't like that are harsh by cranking the gain and sweeping until I find the most piercing harshest range, sometimes narrowing the Q as well,...

Re: Round and Down (Folk rock jazz, maybe)

Happy soulful relaxing. Love the Beatles esque jazzyish sound. I agree with Tritone about the intro, and around 2:20 - that struck piano solo. A bit harsh, but not too bad. That struck piano is indeed very aggressive and biting. Some of those instruments require a bit of a slower attacks me thinks....
