Re: Sampling ethics
This is an endless loop. Think whatever you'd like to think. This is an unhealthy conversation for me. Can't continue.

Re: Zampled gone down
this is not our problem. in fact there's no problem at all for us. if there is a problem it's between companies. between RE developer and Propellerhead. maybe. or between RE developer and NI. maybe. or between NI and Propellerhead. maybe. what I think of this RE developer is for private ears. but it...

Re: Zampled gone down
1. law is not simple a fixed set of rules, it's based on local rules, ethics, always changing and we have different opinions about it. 2. because we here are judging a situation of which I keep on saying "show me the facts, a settlement between the person and NI", this situation is not at all simpl...

Re: Sampling ethics
The only thing I am interested in: who sued him and did they get what they wanted? My personal opinion about him is personal and private. Please respect that. Why this thread then? He sold stolen goods as his own, there's no way to debate the "ethics" of that proven act. Not sure what suing him has...

Re: Cool new synth :)
None of these have ever impressed me. Pretty sure I was looking at a video of an Electro Harmonix (sp) equivalent one a few months ago too. Can these things deal with chords? Always seems like simple single note type stuff in the demonstrations. just watch this. yes polyphonic and more organic that...

Re: Zampled gone down
Law jurisprudence changes all the time. I find it very interesting and have researched it for many years. Art of sampling, Napster, Creative Commons, open source etc. It’s always changing and we can also change it. What does that have to do with the discussion in this thread? (serious question, not...

Re: Sampling ethics
That is not up to me. He has not stolen from me. But I do hope that the ones who got stolen from have sued him. I feel that is not the case at all. And that is super strange! Crime victims do not get to decide whether there is a crime or not, at least not in the US (may be different where you are?)...

Re: Sampling ethics
Marco, this is absurd even for you. There is a world of difference between resampling a hardware synth and stealing tens of thousands of recordings done with an orchestra. Are you high, or just planning on becoming the next Andrew Skelton? Marco just cannot seem to understand what a thief Andrew Sk...

Re: Sampling ethics
Yes we need original sample makers. Not sure if you make profit when doing orchestra sampling for RE. I guess only when it’s available as vst also and the market is saturated. But melodies are not so unique and copyright issues take place all the time. People are really scared now. And with artifici...

Re: Sampling ethics
if I create in a bedroom, this makes it less precious than when done in a studio? I don't agree on this. it's the works, and nothing but the works. an artist can create a golden product under bad conditions, and a fool creates shit in the most expensice places. it's up to the creative/artist imo. w...

Re: Sampling ethics
so if I sample my neighbour, which I consider as an unique sound, it is okay to resample that? but when I create a sample which took a lot of time it isn't? I feel that most people think alike Lars Ulrich who felt Napster was stealing music. Which imo wasn't. Copying is never stealing. Might it res...

i don't think there the same thing Marco I think sample patches you have made on your own synths is fine , synths are there for creating and I don't think anyone's worried about a standard 808 you edited its the same as presets you can use it in your music but you wouldn't just rip the presets and ...

I hate plagiarism. So I hate it when people claim to have created something when they simply used some one else's work without adding something to it or changing it. But it would be great though if anyone can use anything. If art is free. But we are not discussion art, we are discussing business. D...

Re: Zampled gone down
It's grey imo because many sample libraries consists of sampled material. But sampling a sample is suddenly illegal. I know that many sampling manufacturers say so but I am not sure it is legal. Sampling a 909 and resampling the sample is the same thing imo. In this particular instance though, Soft...

Sampling ethics
When is sampling a bad thing and when a good thing? It's considered that sampling a sampled instrument, resampling, is not an ethical thing to do. I can understand it, but I would say it is not so creative. But sampling a Mellotron is not creative either. You don't even need to loop it. No multi lay...

Re: Zampled gone down
Sample libraries' licensing agreements generally specify that you are licensed to use them in your music but not to repackage them in another sample product or similar. It's definitely not a gray area, not legally and certainly not morally. It's grey imo because many sample libraries consists of sa...

Re: Zampled gone down
I don't have the NI library but the video was super convincing. They sampled a sampled library. Must say sampling is tricky. Sampling a 808, 909 and so on is super easy to do. Is that stealing too from Roland? Sticking to the important point (and avoiding a super deep "rabbit hole of no return"): T...

Re: Zampled gone down
I've already pointed this out: I want facts, not presumptions. The video Magnus posted above is good proof. But if you're like me, you'll want to do the tests yourself. I did, and every single sample I compared was a perfect match to the NI library. It won't take long to compare for yourself, unles...
