Taking Europa Relay for a spin
Europa, one of the newest flagship synthesizers of Reason 10, has gotten great reviews about its sound design capabilities, but to truly put that to the test? Enter Fielding Soundworks’ Europa Relay ReFill, the first ReFill to be released for the Europa Shapeshifting Synthesizer. Simply opening the demo song FSW03-Mercy Encoder is enough to wow you with not only Adam Fielding’s known sound design skills but the fact that just about all of it, from bass to leads to pads to drums has been done with the included Europa patches alone, save 3 audio tracks and some effects. The demo song is also featured on the product SoundCloud:
There are a total of 150 patches. They aren’t organized into folders, but rather the categories (AMB, BS, CHD, KY, LD, PD, PERC, and SEQ) are separated via the category name in the patch titles. Still it includes a good variety of patches with only the PERC patches (drums) being small in number as there are only 4 of them. That may or may not point to Europa’s drum synth capabilities, but many will probably use samples for drums sounds anyway.
The ReFill is mainly targeted for cinematic productions, but since Adam Fielding’s example tracks speak for themselves in that genre, I decided to try making a quick track in a different genre to demonstrate the ReFill.
