Propellerhead Releases Free Reason 9.2 Update with New Plug-In SDK!
Propellerhead Software today released Reason 9.2. A free update is exciting in it self, but the big deal this time is the realm of possibilities the new SDK 2.5 presents to us. Wavetable synths with custom wavetables? Dedicated pop-up menus for Rack Extensions? Tabs, widgets and switchable panels? All that is indeed possible now!
SDK, SDK – But what does that mean for the users?
Probably one of the most requested features in the SDK has been the support of sample loading in Rack Extensions. Now, obviously there’s a myriad of use cases for this but for synths in particular this means that they can support custom wavetables. Imagine Malstrom with an “Open sample” button next to the wavetable menu on the oscillators. Imagine a synth developer releasing an update making this possible in your favorite synth!
The addition of tabs and switchable panels is also a long-awaited addition to the SDK. Not only will it allow Rack Extensions to have switchable panels, like Thor does for instance, it will also allow Rack Extensions to have tabs for a subset of it’s features. A tab for each filter. Or each oscillator. Or each effect. Or… There’s so many possibilities, and with the addition of dedicated pop-up (right click) menus from the Rack Extension displays, you could even have functions such as “Randomize LFO envelope” or whatever else you can imagine.
“The Rack Extension SDK allows us to focus on the DSP and user interface design while taking care of all of the other details,” said Andrew Best, CEO of Blamsoft. “The new sample loading feature in SDK 2.5 allows for an entirely new breed of instruments and effects not yet seen in the platform. You can expect Blamsoft to utilize the exciting new SDK 2.5 features in both new and existing Rack Extensions.”
