Mixing and mastering using Reason
Jim Emersen from ReasonZone guest authored two articles for Headphone Charts about mixing and mastering in general. Common for both articles are that all of his work takes place in Reason.
“I use a digital/analog hybrid engineering setup. Implementing Propellerhead Reason 8 and a collection of high quality vintage and modern analog hardware to bring the audio the best of both worlds.“
The articles are quite in-depth and neatly divided into chapters making them easier to process. They outline the do’s and don’ts in both mixing and mastering and covers the basics of all the different elements. They serve as a good starting point for each of the processes involved respectively. Most importantly, they’re done without stating these techniques apply to each and every song out there.
“It’s crucial to keep in mind that every mix is different and you cannot apply the same settings or techniques to every mix. Take what’s written here as more of a mix outline and fill it with your own settings and methods.”
