Triggering keyboard shortcuts with a MIDI controller

Hi all, I love the "P" keyboard shortcut, but I want to trigger it from my MIDI controller. I use a foot controller, and want to trigger the "P" shortcut while playing guitar for live looping. Is that possible? Can keyboard shortcuts be assigned or triggered by MIDI devices, or only from a computer keyboard?

This option is also available in the context menu, it's called "set loop to selection and start playback." I want to trigger this function with a button on my MIDI controller - either an Axiom 49 or an FCB 1010 foot controller.

You'll probably need third party software like Bome MIDI Translator or equivalent for mac.

I’ve never understood why midi controllers don’t generally allow for key shortcuts. Novation have some but not all

if your controller can handle ascii you can assign a key
