How often do you upgrade Reason, and how much do you spend each year on it?

it had been every version without fail. put off 11, for quite a while since it just wasn’t a great value (standard)—but eventually caved and got Suite, and I’m glad I did before R+. I’ll probably get 12, for the hi res update, but that’s gonna be it for me until they actually start improving the goddamn DAW.

Missed 8.
Avoided 11.
Bought 7 eight weeks before 8 came out. Doh!
Bought 9 seven weeks before 10 came out. Doh!
Going from 10 to 12 via 11 feels ok so I think if I do continue to upgrade I’ll jump a version from now on.

The only Reason version I didn't upgrade to was Reason 3, (My first version was Reason 2).
I didn't upgrade to R11 Suite, but I bought R+ few months ago. Basically taken, I almost always upgrade.
As Reason is the bestest software in my life, I want to be in the latest one. Also because I want to support the Props.

I chose every version. But that's only been 10 to 11 and probably will to 12. But not 'without fail' I've got to want what's new. When I bought 10 it was my first legit DAW purchase and I spent quite a lot on Re's and other software to get my setup how I want it. But now I have all the stuff I need so won't be spending much more.

I started on 2.0 and skipped version 8, and am still on 10 with no plans of updating, even with the sale.

I have spent thousands on RE's, but in the last few years I rarely buy them because I have all the stuff I need... I spend way less time in Reason these days, but still enjoy writing with it.

There needs to be another option for "Only when it helps my workflow or when interesting FX and Synths have been added.

5 (first legit copy)
6.5
8.3 (upgraded quite a while after 8 was first released)
9 (used it so little that I didn't remember buying it until I found the receipt from GC recently)
9.5 (as soon as it came out)
10 (the day it was available)

Skipped 7 & 11. I wasn't using Reason anymore after 6.5.3, sticking solely to Cubase (dumped Cubase once 9.5 came out). I didn't feel there was enough compelling stuff to upgrade to 11.

Usually every version, fairly promptly, though I dawdled getting 11 until Beat Map tipped me over. No Suite... not cost effective in my case... already had what I wanted... spent about $5700 Canadian on Reason and RE's since v9.... a fact I wish I didn't know, now, but hey, you can't take it with you...

I used to be an automatic upgrader - like no matter what, I upgraded. Stuck on 10 for the longest time, and even though I technically just upgraded to R11 cuz of the $80 deal, it wasn't really for R11, it was for the R11 + free R12 combo. R11 was such a joke of an update. Kind of getting that feeling about R12, but whatever, it's "free". I'm betting I'll probably skip R13.

I voted every year without fail but for 12 I am not sure if that will continue. Will see what it brings and decide then.

If there will ever be a R13. In my darkest moments I suspect that the announcement of R12 perpetual license was a chill pill. In one or two years they could switch to R+ only and omit version numbers.

As a bedroom producer upgrading every year is really not for me. But I love having the option to skip few releases, normally I am so hyped that I am only able to skip one version :-)

Before R+ was announced Matthias ruffled some feathers by saying '*if *there is a Reason 12'. So I think the idea of ditching the perpetual is probably on the table at least. You may be right with your chill pill theory.

I bought Reason 2.5 in 2005 and upgraded to Reason 11 last year to get the RRP for use in Logic.

That's it, Reasonstudios is not getting rich off of me.

Started missing versions after R6 or R7... I think? Would need to check my purchase history. I do remember taking a hard pass on R11 after taking part in the beta. That said, I just now bought the R11+R12 upgrade just to get R12. :D

Only if the new features appeal to me. Though it’s mostly every update. My history is

R4 > R5 > Rec > R6 .... R9.5 > R10 > R11Su .. maybe R+ next?

My upgrade pattern isn't necessarily time based.

Typically I only upgrade as and when features that I want/need/would actually use are added to the software...so quite rarely

Last time I bought an upgrade was out of necessity in order to collaborate with another artist.

Reason is my primary environment so I tend to just upgrade whatever. Since R3.
I was thinking about saying that i've a few regrets but actually, I don't. I've got a serious feature request list but I've found use in every upgrade really. Even R11 which I feel a bit shitty about, I still use the hell out of the reatures it introduced. Just wish there was more of em.
So there it is. I'm alredy on a kind of subscription model except I can use it off line and walk away with what I've got.

Bought reason 10 upgrade to a Reason limited bundled with hardware. Wasn't planning on upgrading regularly as a hobbiest but the recent buy r11 get r12 grace period offer was too tempting. I was planning on skipping r11 but there you go.
Hope there will be a r13 as I won't be going to a sub.

Or maybe not... FL Studio jumped from 12 to 20, there was never a Windows 9... these things happen sometimes 😁

From versions 2 through 7, I upgraded Reason at each new release. However, I stopped using Reason on a regular basis, and did not upgrade further until recently to obtain version 12 upon release.

Started on 4, jumped on every new version until 10

Stayed on 10 for quite a while, 11 didn't offer me anything I particularly wanted or needed

Finally upgraded to 11 last month during the sale, pretty psyched for 12

Version 3 - first legit version. Upgraded at each new release, including Reason 11 Suite.

Recently bought 1 year subscription for Reason+.
