Re: How to recommend Reason Studios to your friend

In my opinion, the strongest point remains its ability to print non-real-time scales, chord progressions, arpeggios, and whatever else into a sequencer using the 'send to track' button, which is not possible from the plugin version. So with the plugin version of Reason, is it completely impossible ...

Re: How to recommend Reason Studios to your friend

ReCycle
ReBirth
ReWire
Reason
Record
And I bet someone there was proper chuffed when they came up with the RE acronym for Rack Extensions.

But in Internet-land "Propellehead" was a whole lot easier to Google than "Reason", as well as being a more characterful and interesting name.

This is a problem that can only be solved by buying more stuffz.

They make good synths but I wish they would give them better names. ;p
Suggestions?
Well, they could start by dropping the "TAL".
And then changing all of the other letters in some of them. Example: TAL-U-NO-LX. Not exactly catchy, is it?

IMO, porting Reason to iPad would be a much bigger task than Linux version,
Oh, I agree. In reality neither are ever going to happen but an iPad version would find a much bigger and a much faster growing audience than a Linux version and, you know:

Re: Would you like to see Linux version of Reason?

...was that they actually re-wrote most of the legacy code? Nope, they'll have rewritten the bare minimum they needed to and nothing more, because they needed to release it. There will still be plenty of old code in there. Anyway, the question was would you like to see it (and use it), NOT if you t...

Re: Would you like to see Linux version of Reason?

I think it is vanishingly unlikely, ever. Look at how difficult it was for them to add hi-res graphics and M1 support and how many related bugs there were. Those tasks are trivial compared with porting a 20 year old code base to Linux. I doubt they would ever get their dev costs back. And I think if...

Re: I borked my PC, will I have any issue activating R+ on a new machine?

Lots of my iLok licences have more than one authorisation and, I think, you can install the iLok software on your new PC and manually deactivate licences that were on your old one. I certainly managed that with some of my iLok licences when I had a kaput PC a few years back. I think the zero downtim...

Re: Can MIDI Velocity Control a VST parameter live?

Some Spitfire libraries and quite a few others only use velocity for their "short" sounds (eg. Staccato strings). For the longer sounds they use CC1, which is the modulation wheel. It starts to make a bit more sense when you consider how those sounds are used. You ride the mod wheel to change the dy...

Re: Good Speaker Monitoring for Mix and Mastering or Sound designing

I don't have particularly strong opinions about any speaker brand except KRK. I know they have their fans but I've never heard a good KRK speaker. To me they always sound more like HiFi speakers than monitoring speakers.

Re: Solutions for a small hardware synth collection

I have a few glass monitor risers that are perfect for organising a bunch of small synths. They come in many sizes and heights and with clear or black glass. They are inexpensive and can look classy. Example: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Charles-Jacobs-Monitor-Riser-Stand/dp/B07951WVYP I also have a few...

Re: How to recommend Reason Studios to your friend

I've read lots of music interviews over the years and there have occasionally been people who say "I started out on Reason but then moved to Live (or AnotherDAW). Re: Reason vs. Logic

I have no doubt that Macs are the best platform to use for music production. I also have no doubt that Apple take the piss with their pricing of add-ons and upgrades. They do it because they can, in the same way that replacement parts for premium car brands are two or three times the prices of the s...

Re: Mimic: New Creative Sampler

TBH I don't really see the point of using someone else's patches in Mimic other than as a learning exercise to see what Mimic can do. The whole point of an instrument like that is to use your own sounds or found sounds or something you've sampled from elsewhere.
