Is there any DAW that has built-in step recording?Creativemind wrote: ↑31 Jul 2021I know but paying £54 for something that should be built into the daw is wrong but the Re is probably great.

Re: New to CV: where to start
And I can go further by using a Spider CV Splitter. This way, I can use the Subtractor's beat-synched LFO1 to modulate two things at the same time - Subtractor's Amp Level and also Monotone's Filter Frequency. Notice the INV Output on the Splitter. If I patched that into the Monotone's Filter Freque...

Re: New to CV: where to start
Here's a very simple example that shows how and why you might want to use CV. Subtractor has two LFOs. LFO 1 can sync to the beat, while LFO 2 can't. But LFO 1 can't modulate Amp Level (which would create a tremolo effect). So if I want tempo-synched tremolo, I'm stuck. Flip the rack, patch LFO 1 ou...

Re: Automation not working (The Echo Roll)
Have you tried putting Echo into a Combinator. Then run ROLL through the Combinator modulation routing, assigning it to a rotary. Then automate the Combinator rotary in Reaper. I do this in Studio One and works - maybe it will for you in Reaper. Nice one Danc! I took it one step further and restore...

Re: Looking for beta testers for Photon - a new shimmerverb Rack Extension
Looking forward to Photon when it's released. Neutron is a bit of a bear, and the lack of presets is a drawback. On the other hand, Proton is a dream. Gorgeous sounds, a ton of presets, and just a really sweet alternative to Grain!

Re: Algoritm is released!
Good spotting! I’ve taken the algorithm structure from DX100 and algorithm 6 differs in ES400 because of limitations of Gorilla Engine (IDT SDK) where only one OP can be fed the modulation from another OP. So the picture in the manual is correct in how ES400 is set up. That makes sense. Not a sever...

Re: Proper stereo panning in Reason: RE or VST?
It's not that easy, due to the limitations of the combinator - you can't set a knob to only affect a parameter from halfway through its rotation onwards. I've tried to design elaborate workarounds in the past with CV devices but it doesn't really work. You can define the range of Rotaries, Dials an...

Re: Using 3rd party VST plugins to Sidechain with more Precision in REASON
Sidechains in VST2 often work just fine, although there was a recent update to Reason that fixed a problem with Neutron 3 and apparently with some of the Waves plugins. Here are six VST2s that I use that have functioning sidechains.

Re: Automation not working (The Echo Roll)
Same thing in Logic. Roll doesn't respond to the Mod Wheel. Is it maybe because it's an effect device and not a synth? Maybe the DAW recognizes the difference.

Reason 11 has the VST option, not Reason 10.
Reason 10 can host VSTs, but it can't BE a VST.

Re: Combinator to switch connected VSTs on or off
Assuming you mean the On/Off buttons for the VST, I'm pretty sure you'll find it's impossible. They aren't automatable (VST On/Off isn't an available parameter in either the Combinator or the VST Programmer). Nor do they show the Remote Control or Keyboard Control Override option when right clicked.

This whole upgrade, sort of upgrade, maybe subscribe, Reason +, Reason Companion, Suite, beta, incremental updates on the subscription thing is just one big ball of confusion. I can't imagine what it's like for the dozen or so Props employees who have to keep all this shit straight. Count me out unt...

Re: Algoritm is released!
. I am scratching my head about algorithm 6. Does it mean operator 4 is connected to itself? All 8 algorithms have feedback on Operator 4. But Algorithm 6 seems to be incorrect, assuming this set of Algorithms is based on Yamaha's early 4-op devices. Here's an image of the 8 algorithms from the TX8...

Re: Phase offset
Pulsar, Little LFO and Ammo all have audio output and phase control, though even with the Shift key, the phase adjustments are jumpy.
Ammo has the greatest variety of waveforms, and also the greatest frequency range (30Hz - 8372Hz).

Re: Proper stereo panning in Reason: RE or VST?
I have no problem with the method Reason uses to place a stereo image in the total stereo field. It's as precise as it needs to be, given that the acoustics anywhere except a perfectly tuned room will mess up the imaging beyond any ambiguities that could be introduced by manipulating Width (very use...

If you like FM, but you're bored by typical FM, these two beasts are worth looking into. FlowMotion has an extremely intuitive UI and the Snapshot Sequencer is something else. Aparillo takes FM to a whole new level - unbelievably complex sounds, and huuuge.

Re: philosophy of creativity - Music vs. Music Theory - Ignore the Gatekeepers!
The only people who make music by consulting rules of music theory are "producers" who watch "tutorials" and couldn't tell the difference between a major and minor chord if it hit them on the head. Theory is DESCRIPTIVE, not PRESCRIPTIVE. People who are threatened by it don't get this distinction.

Re: Noobie Stereo/Mono Sum Question
It depends on how the Reverb behaves when you connect only the Left channel. If it senses that only one output is needed, it may sum internally before the Left output, so L becomes Mono. If not, then you'll only get the Left side of the reverb effect, which may or may not be noticeably different tha...

Re: What does a "musical EQ" mean
I use that word to mean an EQ with gentle slopes and wide bands. Punching up 738Hz by 6dB with a narrow Q is not musical, it's a special effect. Notching out 120Hz is not musical, it's problem solving. Gently tilting the entire spectrum towards the bass around 250Hz is musical. Shelf EQs are musical...
