Re: Parallel Compression – what’s really going on?
I thought parallel compression meant mixing a heavily compressed single in to a non compressed original one to provide some fatness to the original signal while maintaining the dynamics/higher frequencies.

Re: Is dual xeon the way to go
So currently an i7 8700k offers 22.2ghz of processing power and a dual xeon hex core (say 2.6ghz) will offer 31.2ghz. I understood that R10 supports multithreading but not hyperthreading, so cores are king are they not????? I only need one FireWire connection and use a single monitor so nothing taxi...

Re: Is dual xeon the way to go
I knows they arent the bargain they were a year or so ago but I can still build one for about £800 as opposed to a similar i7 8700k machine for £1200.

Is dual xeon the way to go
Seen some great benchmark results with people running older dual xeon machines. If Reason doesn't use hyperthreading is dual xeon hexcore the way to go instead of i7 8700? Does processor clock speed make a lot of difference as most of the cheaper dual xeons are around 2.6ghz? I'm way out my depth he...

I'd like to be bang up to date but cant afford it right now. That said, Im more than happy working in 7 at present.
I need a new PC before upgrading. Finally starting to max this one out with multiple Synapses. I dont do bouncing.

Yep, 909 with with some overdrive (probably done on the mixing desk gain to overdrive the channel) and then the bottom filtered off and some boost in the mids.

Re: Stop the High Pass Filters Madness
For dance music I find it best to have everything except the bass and kick filtered at 150-200hz. They get filtered at 20-30hz.

Re: Leaky SSL HP filter
Inserts pre and dynamics post EQ I rarely use the SSL EQ or any insert EQ preferring to use parallel channels for boosting and find the SSL or D Filter enough to shape the sound cuts wise. I then use the SSL channel comp set at infinity/fastest release then dial in a small amount of secondary compre...

Re: New Lotus in the shop
Just my own personal note on pricing, for me, on basic devices like this once you get above £25 I have to see something a little more in it. When it's a fairly crowded market place, like the compressor one is getting, I need it to do something the other devices I have don't, not that I'm a compresso...

With a bit of thought you could build a multiband combinator with all manner of available compressors EQs and limiters and visual aids.

There's only a finite amount of 'big' improvements any DAW developer can do. So we need to get used to each one from now on not being very exciting and maybe only upgrading every 2 or 3 full upgrades.

Re: Meter in SSL mixer's Dynamics section
I feel you need to shape the sound with HP and LP filters and EQ before running it in to compressor so unwanted frequencies arent affecting the compressors function adversely. I might then add a touch of EQ to get a sound sitting right. I dont tend to use send and return fx for 'static' affect, and ...

Re: Meter in SSL mixer's Dynamics section
Run the dynamics section post EQ and Inserts, crank the ratio fully clockwise, the release fully anti clockwise and then slowly dial in the threshold for a very nice final touch of compression - #1 light or less is enough.

Yeah there's a noticeable change but Im with Selig. I often shunt my bass line track back a frame or two anyway to make sure any sidechaining captures the start of the bass sounds.
