Re: DIY rockwool acoustic panels

Okay, so basically, even if I stack 2 slabs of the rockwool available here, which would be 20 cm thick, with a 20 cm airgap behind it, would barely do an ~80% absorbtion down to 200 Hz. That would cost about 200 USD/EUR for DIY 3 panels. A good thing I didn't throw out my gobo shield for my micropho...

Re: What does everyone have in the mastering section?

Honestly, I'd handle mastering as: whatever cool shit we can bring out of a perfect mix. I might play around with multi-band dynamics processing (up/downwards compression/expansion, limiting, (soft)clipping, foldback, etc.), then set with a dry/wet crossover after matching levels, to hear if it does...

Re: Speakers in corners (the worst case)

A final update on the R2850DB + T5 combo: So, I tested with the T5 sub on the ground (center, not corner, cause the audio cable is too short), and the R2850DB on the desk this time. They worked a lot better with the sub out. The R2850DB's height and distance won't be a problem. Moving my head up an...

Re: DIY rockwool acoustic panels

I suggest looking around this YT-channel for a while: https://www.youtube.com/@AcousticsInsider All I need to know is whether to leave the back of acoustic panels open, with fabric on? Or should I buy sound isolating panels (common in offices for example), and put that on the back for better isolat...

Re: DIY rockwool acoustic panels

I've heard of that - apparently, rockwool is a lot easier on the skin. That said, I do plan to cover them in fabric. They say the easiest way is to buy some basic bedsheets and work with that. I can only work with what's available here, I'm afraid. I also plan to just put a few plain rockwool slabs...

Re: DIY rockwool acoustic panels

Fiberglass can be an itchy nightmare, continuously sheds glass particles if not hermetically sealed, especially if you're moving panels in and out of place. There's an alternative made out of recycled blue jeans, more expensive no doubt. I've heard of that - apparently, rockwool is a lot easier on ...

DIY rockwool acoustic panels

The big moment will come, aka. a bit of coustic treatment. I kind of want both sound proofing and absorbtion. I mainly want such panels on window and door areas. On their own, windows and the door will be properly sealed, so no sound can easily flow. I plan to make a frame around the windows, using ...

Re: How does BVX compare to BV512?

You should really watch this 2 hour livestream :D https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQPqE70eKeY You can jump around and view the key moments. There's plenty more with BV-X over BV512 including the multi modes, auto play (no need for MIDI), built-in synth, so many modulation possibilities, spectral sp...

How does BVX compare to BV512?

I see the BVX is on sale, and I kind of was curious about it anyway. I mostly wonder about if BVX sounds any better (more accurate) in modern mode, aka. the 512 FFT? Or is it about the same as BV512? (I remember, BV512 used to work correctly only at 44.1 kHz sample rate, while higher ones got all wo...

Re: Recording from Reason's ASIO4ALL output?

This kind of stuff is good to know!

I for example want to be able to process what comes in through HDMI eARC from the TV, to have a better crossover and a surround system (cause 5.1 and especially atmos DACs are rare as heck).

Wait up guys! I barely used R12 due to my slow ass studio renovation. D:

Also, shit! We think of the same effect processor ideas, and they created what I wanted. : D Well, not exactly, but close. Okay then! My REs will be cooler and sell better! x P Kidding! : )

Anyways, keep it coming!

Re: Speakers in corners (the worst case)

I read on ASR, that the R2850DB's crossover is set at 110 Hz, and 24 dB/O. Huh. I guess my problem with the sound is that it's set too high for my taste. And I usually suggest centering sub bass frequencies below 80 Hz. Maybe I like the two 8" woofers' stereo bass. But again, gotta give it another s...

Re: Speakers in corners (the worst case)

I use this to measure 30 degrees. the smallest angle is 30 degrees https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/0/0f/Squadra_30_60.jpg/293px-Squadra_30_60.jpg Completely forgot about these rulers (as well as about 30⁰ rules) ~ basic math, but math lessons were a long time ago. : D Thank you!

Re: Speakers in corners (the worst case)

As long as you allow for an increased bass response due to corner placement, you'll be ok, especially if it's just for casual listening. I will probably even prefer a bit of stronger sub bass rumbling. I still wonder about the speakers' sub out crossover. It seems to center/narrow the stereo image ...

Re: Speakers in corners (the worst case)

First, most speakers suggest a 30° angle for speakers for an equilateral triangle of 60° each half. Also, many speakers have built in boundary adjustments. And don't forget that many times you have no choice but to put speakers against a wall, and it's not a bad thing unless they are rear ported (t...

Speakers in corners (the worst case)

So yeah, the hazard of "bedroom" project studio: I'm cornered like a dog with this. : D Or more like the speakers will be, but they certainly might bite back - acoustically speaking. No other solution, I must build a simple speaker-holding shelf, and put the speakers in the corners. Even so I won't ...

Ah, the fairly new, Japanese company (I thought that all this time) - now I see it's French, and founded in 1999. I live under a rock I guess. x D Their MIDI controllers seem interesting - finally a company that uses encoders. "Encoder" is such a generic term, what do you mean exactly? Which compan...

Re: 5 pin VS USB MIDI - Any difference?

I think there was an update to the device, and the newer edition, according to the manual, can handle DIN MIDI properly. Hold the presses, the MIDI input is actually on the front panel - odd choice (and why I missed it) especially since there appears to be plenty of room on the back panel for it. A...

Re: Would a mono cable splitter halve the volume?

I know... so many questions... But yeah, since I wanted an authentic dual mono recording, I guess the best way would be to record from a hardware synth's mono out, into stereo. That's why I thought about, if I get a Behringer Neutron, then I'd connect a jack to its mono-out with a "Y" all-mono jack...

Re: 5 pin VS USB MIDI - Any difference?

NOTE: IF you go with Neutron, there is only the USB option for MIDI IN if I’m not mistaken, so a moot point. Otherwise… If you’re going from a controller keyboard directly to a sound module, MIDI will be your only option in most/all cases (not 100% sure). But if you’re going to the computer and bac...

Re: Would a mono cable splitter halve the volume?

When I have the perfect midi sequence idea I would record the analog mono synth twice, and pan hard L and R. I may or may not change some settings. That solution has its pros and cons, though I would record it once, then run it through the synth two more times and record that for left and right, in...

Re: 5 pin VS USB MIDI - Any difference?

+1 on the above. I only use DIN MIDI now after spending more time unsuccessfully trying to isolate and eliminate digital noise, than actually make music. It's a shame because the integration in USB MIDI is so much more powerful, but frankly not worth the hassle. From a latency perspective I am *gue...
